Christian Baptism is an outward act of obedience done by believers to fulfill an inward righteousness enjoyed in a person’s heart, made available through faith in Jesus Christ’s atoning death and resurrection. The best example of baptism is Jesus himself (Mat. 3:13-17). Jesus was not baptized as infant, or because He had committed sin and needed repentance, He was baptized in order to fulfill all righteousness. Therefore, baptism is ordained by Jesus Christ Himself as an integral part of the completing the gospel message (Mark 16:15-16). With this understanding, Jesus’ baptism is the standard of behavior by all Christian believers to follow Him (1 Peter 2:21-22). Jesus was baptized in the Jordan river (Matt 3:16). Therefore, Influence Church baptizes individuals in the complete immersion of water. We carry out baptism in the full name and authority of the triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. A person qualifies for baptism when they have repented of sins, confessed faith in Jesus Christ being the Son of God, and are willing to commit to discipleship. By the outward act of obedience in being baptized, a person is sealed by the Holy Spirit and has completed the requirements of God needed to give a scriptural assurance of salvation (Acts 2:37-40).
